TroubleShooting Guide - At Home Printing

Got problems?

Here are a few things that I encountered on my printing journey.

Can’t find ‘Shape Format’ in Microsoft Word

If you are wanting at add your design to a Avery or Online Label template for easy printing sometimes you can run into trouble.

Some of the Avery & Online Label template formats are very very old.  So when we open them they don’t show all the functions of Word.

Easy fix is to do the following:

Select one of the templates on the page

  1. Go to > Insert > Picture > Picture From File…

  2. This will force Word to convert the document to allow images to be added.

  3. A pop up window will appear asking you to change to a new format.

  4. Select ‘Convert’

  5. Now you should see ‘Shape Format’ appear in the Menu.

Design dropped in the wrong way around

You may go to drop your design into your printing template and it drops in the wrong way around!  Gasp!

This is just because the format of the printing template requires the image a certain way.

Frustrating as this is, it is very easy to fix.

All we need to do is rotate your design….

Simple. simple.

Follow the directions below and your problem is solved.

Mac Users

Double-click on the image file -- such as a JPEG of GIF file -- from the Finder menu, or from any other file or folder within your MacBook. This will open the image in the Preview window, typically located in the top left of the screen.

Click the "Tools" menu from the top bar of the screen.

Click "Rotate Left" or "Rotate Right" to turn the photo to the left or right. If the person who took the photo turned the camera to the side while taking it, resulting in a sideways photo, this will remedy the problem and turn the photo "right side up.

Windows Users

The stock Photos app on Windows 10 has basic image editing features and you can use it to flip photos pretty easily.

Open the photo that you want to flip in the Photos app. Click the Edit & Create button at the top. From the menu that opens, select Edit.

When the photo opens for editing, you will see a panel on the right with various controls for editing the image. Click Rotate left or Rotate right to rotate the selected image and you are done!
